Of all the public schools in the state, New Beginnings Family Academy dominated the top 10 list for performance on the 2007 Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT). Specifically, NBFA scored:
- #1 for Elementary School Improvement
- #1 for Elementary School Performance Gains
- #1 for Elementary African American Scores
- #1 for Middle School Improvement
The students at New Beginnings are working hard to exceed the state’s standards again this year. Students visit Study Island, a web-based CMT preparation program, every week. Accessible to all NBFA students, Study Island can be used at school, home or anywhere with an internet connection.
Each week, NBFA tracks the progress of all classes in grades 3 through 8 that compete to correctly answer the highest amount of questions. For the past few weeks, Keller, grade 5 has achieved first place in reading. Recently, Lincoln, grade 4, achieved first place in math. Both classes received a pizza lunch on Friday.
In addition to weekly class competitions, individual student progress is tracked. Students can earn Blue Ribbons from Study Island each time they successfully complete a topic.
Dayne Brissitte, grade 4 in Lincoln, has earned 37 Blue Ribbons, placing him first amongst all students. Congratulations to Dayne (in photo with his mom) for his hard work and strong effort!
